Southgate Roller Rink

This venue stands as a testament to White Center’s rich skating heritage, having evolved from a Prohibition-era boxing arena to a beloved family entertainment center and competitive skating facility. Built in 1920 by pioneer developer Hiram Green, the building was transformed into Southgate Rollerdrome in 1937. The historic 10,000-square-foot floor has supported generations of skaters, including serving as the first home of the now-famous Rat City Rollergirls derby team.

After a period of closure, the rink was revived, maintaining its original floor that, while showing its age with patches and waves, carries decades of skating history within its boards. Today, Southgate Roller Rink is home to GoFigure Artistic Skating Lessons, founded by ArtisticSkating.com’s partner Coach Patrick. The program offers weekly practice sessions featuring both one-on-one and group lessons, with a revolving curriculum designed to develop artistic skating skills. This blend of historical significance and contemporary programming makes Southgate a vital hub for both preserving skating heritage and nurturing the next generation of artistic skaters.
